A Recent Project...
Sony’s medical systems division
manufacturers several products which meet regulatory requirements for
use in
medical environments. Many of Sony’s products are designed for use in
gastroenterology and endoscopy.
As endoscopy becomes more prevalent in medical practice, there is a need for
higher-quality video. Sony addressed this need with the introduction of the
DSR-20MD medical-grade DVCAMTM videotape recorder. |
DVCAM, fit perfectly into the endoscopic
environment as it
allowed
surgeons to record their procedures digitally and then
transfer the
images into their computers, so that video clips and
still images could
be used for digital video streaming, Microsoft®
PowerPoint®
presentations and electronic transmission to other
physicians. |

Surgeons at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill North Carolina
were upgrading to
the new DSR-20MD but
were dissatisfied with the remote footswitch
function than enables and disables recording. We developed
a cost
effective software/hardware solution that allowed the performance of the
footswitch to be set for
record-enable when depressed, giving the
surgeons foolproof feedback of the system status. |
